2006 Projects Selected

The Google/PSU Summer of Code 2006 projects have been selected. It was a difficult process; Google received more submissions (half-again as many) and had more sponsoring organizations (2.5 times as many) than last year, making the environment for our proposals highly competitive. Many strong proposals had to be turned down for lack of resources—in the end, we could accept only three. Congratulations to those who will be developing their projects for Google/PSU Summer of Code 2006:
  • Shane Matthews, PSU—A Threaded Network Monitor
  • Dawn Thomas, India Institute of Technology—Architectural Space Programming
  • Eric Hanson, PSU—Web Component Framework
We want to offer our gratitude to the other 20-odd applicants who submitted valid applications, many of them quite good. A lot of hard work went in to this process; I hope that many of you will see your way clear to continuing to work on your project ideas outside of Summer of Code. I'd also like to thank our 2006 Review Board, which did a lot of great work under a tight timeline. We will be sending summarized review comments to all submitters as soon as possible.
