Google/PSU Summer of Code 2006 Opens

Google has announced Summer of Code 2006, and has graciously invited Portland State University to once again act as a mentoring organization. The deadline for student proposals is currently pegged at 8 May 2006; student proposals will be accepted by Google starting May 1.

Portland State University (in Portland Oregon USA) is involved in open source research and development of all types. Our faculty and students create open source in diverse areas, such as X Window System development (e.g. XCB, but see the X.org Summer of Code project), open hardware (e.g. software defined radio, partly funded by Summer of Code 2005), amateur rocketry, network software (e.g. Ourmon), and academic support (e.g. as a lead with Sakai). We work on most any kind of project with a research, novel development, or engineering focus where our community expertise can be brought to bear.

2006 project ideas are currently solicited in the Ideas Forum. Welcome to Google/PSU Summer of Code 2006!
